newies for Anzac Day

Kuman Gorey (one of my teaching degree students):  pen sketches and the start (in umber wash) of an oil painting:  I was pretty torn between two expressions when thinking about the final painting: the one on the right of the sketchbook or the one I finally went for:  may well do the one on the right later . . .

Wow - that face has great potential for a portrait. What poise and self-assurance.
Sorry that Betty got bored and went to have a lie-down!

Yes, really looking forward to working on Kuman's portrait: it was a definite toss up though between her looking 'strong' and her looking 'sweet': both sides of her, but the 'strong' one was just too tempting

And yes, poor ol' Betty: but it was a 40 degree day when the shots were taken, so perhaps we can let her off that one . . . (if only she did get bored more often, she might just then stay still and I'd have a better chance of doing more life-drawing/painting of her rather than working from thumbnail sketches and photos)
