public hol = extra art

where to start . . .
 Sunday at Judy's studio to do the overprinting of the resilience landscape map: J was off on a research trip but non-studio dog decided to join me for some company ... I managed to smudge several of the prints but they'll be ok enough for the purpose I think
 Saturday and later on Sunday was camel time again after quite a drought . . . Hercules and Darcy

 Then monday playing with a REALLY old image from Frontier Camel Farm just after the Smail's sold it . . .
 hoping the light and the perspective work
 and some dancers . . . because . . . it's quite big so I'm looking forward to seeing how I can get movement happening amidst the red and blue
 And lovely ring neck in lovely pomegranate . . . still not sure if I'll play with words snaking in and out of the foliage . . . but very much enjoying leave, fruit and feathers . . .

Mapping Resilience print becoming . . . .

 A mad day on Sunday carving the three BIG words and getting the three roads finalised and then mirrored so they could be transferred onto the longer lino that Judy's got at the shed.  Then, peace and joy, public holiday Monday printing the first board and sorting out the road  linos at Judy's.    Didn't quite get the paleness happening with the big words but have begun cutting out the middle bits of them to make them sit more lightly on the map, and think I'll go with a greige/brown rather than the original greyed black of the roads and small words . . . really have no idea what I'm doing or where things are going, but it's heaps ('heaps') of fun and I'm loving the text in print stuff too, which could go off in all sorts of directions.

Lino map beginnings

 Love that the text I've been doing in the oils is now happening with the linos too.  Still not sure how much I'll carve out of the 'inside' bits of the three 'big' words for the map, so I'll prob play on paper first for a bit, before I go into the 'no going back' zone there.  This, if I didn't mention it, is for a research paper on 'Remapping the landscape of resilience:  learning from an Arrernte teacher's story' that a couple of us are presenting at a symposium and putting up for a journal next month (no pressure, right.)

Birdies and ink!

 The beginning of a new series: Voices of Birds.  Interested in getting the 'sound' of them in the image as well (with these writing extracts from bird books that focus on their song/voice.)  Given how often we hear but dont see, quite interested in the interplay here . . .

 And trying to get better at knowing what I'm doing with printing . . . so started an edition (20 off prints, hoping to get 10 edition worthy ones ...)

A couple of other newies I'm just proof printing to see what needs doing to the lino . . .

 The start of a lino design for a conference and journal paper . . . all a bit out there but good cog exercise . . .

sharpening ARGH and some newies

 Spent most of my studio time today trying, spectacularly unsuccessfully, trying to sharpen my favourite v gouge.  Yes it's the smallest, yes I should have tried something larger as I'm still learning, but . . . so Japanese stone and diamond slabs later I resorted to the jig to get at least a straight chisel edge.  Hey at least I know the stones do grind out the metal . . . note the difference I 'honed' (hollow laughter) and shortened my dream chisel.  It's at least relatively even and sort of sharp now, but, really, 3 hours, for a tiny little chisel   . . . . learning humility land is where I'm currently located.
 So, not as much of anything as completed as I'd have liked.  But loving trying different wood surfaces as well as the lino for carving . . . and definitely in the small scale at present . . .
