trying to keep the focus

back to black and white

too many I want to do

 Really spoilt for choice today as I wanted to keep working on the three portraits (two of Syd, one of Ian) but also, after a mammoth stretching of canvas day yesterday, to get started on some of the oversized bone/skull still lifes that's part of a project Bean and I are hoping to develop (more later, if it comes off!).  So, the light kindly made it easy to do both.  Main part of the day was sunny and clear, so portrait time.  Later afternoon cloudy and washed out, so sketching the outlines on canvases varying in size but from 90cm at present at the largest (but going bigger too!)

raining today so dodgy light:  thought it about time I finished this nearly mono one of Betty where I don't have to worry so much about chroma, just tone.  Very odd painting in bad light but I enjoyed doing the textures and shadows.  Just her nose (which I repositioned) to go, pretty much, and she's good to go.  Interesting that these fence ones of Betty appeal to me so much:  there's story in them as well as character I guess, without getting too over-cerebral.
