Kuman Gorey (one of my teaching degree students):  pen sketches and the start (in umber wash) of an oil painting:  I was pretty torn between two expressions when thinking about the final painting: the one on the right of the sketchbook or the one I finally went for:  may well do the one on the right later . . .

and then she's done, and then back to Ian and on to two more new portraits too

Yes.  But worth it.  pleased with the surface texture now (which does't really show on screen) and slight re-orientation of Betty's jaw.  Re-discovered my 'finishing off' brush, which is lovely too:  an old large flat sable that's gone a bit crunchy now but is great for smoothing things together.  It's starting to really look like Betty now, which had been a worry earlier.
